The final step of a performance study is to examine the validated data and answer the questions raised in step 4 (Set Objectives for the Performance Study). In the case of comparing the model predictions or measurement results against a numeric performance goal, no further analysis is needed. However, when comparing data for two design options, statistical techniques should be used to determine if the difference between the results is statistically significant.
In many cases, a performance study yields additional data beyond that required to answer the original questions. This data can often reveal performance bottlenecks or suggest the best way to improve product performance.
The role of the performance analyst in this step is to use appropriate methods to analyze the data and to present it so as to emphasize the key results and major trends.
